Weaving & Collage
Collage Instructions
Process
-
Fill sink/bowl with cold water
-
Apply selected range of colours to the surface of the water
-
Tear paper into A3, or a size that the sink/bowl will accomodate
-
Carefully “dip” the A3 sheets through the water once (it is possible to dip a second sheet of paper from one sink of water and ink)
-
Change the water and the inks/colours, and repeat, using a clean sheet of paper
-
Allow papers plenty of time to dry - overnight
-
Identify bold simple design - a sketch or photograph
-
Make a tracing of the main elements of the design
-
Transfer image to either side of the dried marbled sheets
-
Carefully cut out traced design (it is possible to cut multiple sheets together to make a repeat pattern)
-
Prior to gluing, arrange the cut pieces to form your preferred design on a clean sheet of pre-stretched cartridge
-
Apply glue thoroughly to the back of the cut pieces and fix to the paper
-
In addition, it is possible to use some of the off-cuts to extend or embellish the design, or to construct a 2D frame (see example)

Weaving
Process
With the addition of some torn or cut strips for the "warp" it is possible to use the off-cuts from the Collage project above as the "weft" to produce this weaving;
-
Fill sink/bowl with cold water
-
Apply selected range of colours to the surface of the water
-
Tear paper into A3, or a size that the sink/bowl will accommodate
-
Carefully “dip” the A3 sheets through the water (it is possible to take two dips from one sink of water and ink)
-
Change the water and the inks/colours, and repeat, using a clean sheet of paper
-
Allow papers plenty of time to dry - overnight
-
Cut or tear strips to make up the “warp”
-
Glue the strips, at one end only, onto a heavy sheet of paper, to produce a loose open-ended “warp”
-
Using the off-cuts from the Collage project, or any newly created torn or cut shapes, begin to weave the “weft”
-
A interesting effect can be created when the “weft” is constructed by introducing irregular intervals between the “warp” strands
-
Glue the open ends of the “warp” strands to secure the weave
